Plan Your Day at NSO

New Student Orientation is a full day to explore your new ÃØÉ«´«Ã½ home. Review the schedule to see what to expect.

Parking

Free parking for NSO is available at the ÃØÉ«´«Ã½ Coliseum on the Evansdale area of campus.

From there, you will travel downtown by bus to the Mountainlair Student Union for NSO check-in. You should arrive at the ÃØÉ«´«Ã½ Coliseum between 7:15 and 8 a.m. in order to get to the Mountainlair in time for the Welcome session.

The last bus will leave the ÃØÉ«´«Ã½ Coliseum at 8 a.m. Families arriving after the last bus will need to drive to the and pay to park.

Tips for Attending

  • Review the schedule before the event.
  • before coming to campus.
  • Dress for the weather. Please wear layers and comfortable clothes and shoes.
  • Breakfast and lunch will be provided.
  • Bring your questions!

Arrive and Park at the ÃØÉ«´«Ã½ Coliseum

7:15 a.m. - 8:00 a.m.

Park in the ÃØÉ«´«Ã½ Coliseum parking lots and board the bus to travel downtown for NSO.

Check-in and Breakfast

7:15 a.m. - 8:25 a.m.

You'll be dropped off in front of the Mountainlair Student Union, where you'll check in for NSO and enjoy a quick complimentary breakfast. The ÃØÉ«´«Ã½ Bookstore will be open if you'd like to do some shopping before the program starts.

Welcome and Event Overview

8:30 a.m. - 9:00 a.m.

Mountainlair Ballrooms

A special guest will welcome you to campus and our NSO staff will help you understand the schedule of the day.

Student Breakout Sessions with Orientation Leaders

9:00 a.m. - 10:10 a.m.

Mountainlair

Students, you will have the opportunity to meet with other incoming students and ask questions of our current students.

Parents: Let’s Get Real

9:00 a.m. - 10:10 a.m.

Mountainlair Ballrooms

Parents and guests, this session is for you! Corey Farris, dean of students, and Lisa Hanselman, director of the Mountaineer Parents Club, will share info you need to know as a parent or family member of a ÃØÉ«´«Ã½ student!

10:10 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.

Life as a Mountaineer

10:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.

Discover exactly what to expect with Life as a Mountaineer! We'll cover residence hall move-in and Welcome Week, plus how to get involved (and stay involved), some traditions we love, and more ways you will be supported.

Academic Breakouts

11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

Downtown Classrooms

Everyone will hear from their academic unit and how students can be successful on campus and in their major.

Lunch

12:30 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.

Lunch is on us! You can eat at Hatfields, our dining hall in the Mountainlair, or choose from the Mountainlair's other eateries.

Information Fair

12:30 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.

First floor of the Mountainlair

Connect with student services and resources that will support you and help you find your fit on campus.

Cost, Payment, and Aid

2:00 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.

Mountainlair Ballrooms

Everyone will return to the Ballrooms to hear about cost, payment, and financial aid.

Explore Campus

2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Explore campus at your own pace – find where your classes are, check out the rec centers, and visit the ÃØÉ«´«Ã½ Bookstores.

Last Bus

5:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

The last bus will leave the Mountainlair at 5 p.m. and make its final loop through campus. Please be at one of our designated bus stops by 5 p.m. to be picked up on this last loop.
